Community Giving

Occasionally, the fellowship takes up a special collection and donates funds to a local non-profit agency that delivers necessary community services. Current and past Community Giving Partners are listed below. To learn more about these local organizations, click on their logos.
Back to School Festival (B2SF)
B2SF was created to lift the heavy financial burden that back-to-school shopping creates for local families. When families are unable to afford supplies the responsibility often falls on faculty and staff and can leave the child feeling insecure or inadequate. We can make a difference!

The Children's Playhouse
The mission of The Children's Playhouse is to provide children from birth to age eight with an enriching, educational play environment while at the same time offering their parents and caregivers friendly support in the important job of raising children.

The Playhouse serve as an informal “town square” for the High Country: a place where natives and newcomers, out-of-towners and locals, experienced parents and eager first-timers, and people of all classes are brought together to share the joy of playful learning with their children. Stimulating arts– and science-based programs, enticing play areas and exhibits, and informative parenting resources all support this mission.

We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America's injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

Tranzmission Project
Tranzmission was founded in Asheville, NC on April 2nd, 2001. We quickly discovered that amazing things can happen when people come together! Our membership includes trans women and men as well as non-binary folk and allies. Over the years our membership continues to change and evolve, and we continue to celebrate and nourish the incredible diversity within our community.

Our mission is to help make the lives of transgender and non binary people safer, healthier, and happier through education, advocacy, and support.

WeCan
Everyday households in our community face eviction, utility cutoffs, heating fuel shortage and prescription medication needs. Since 2002, Watauga Crisis Assistance Network (WeCAN) has been providing help to community members who find themselves in these situations. Often, such assistance ultimately prevents a family from becoming homeless. The program coordinator provides guidance and helps the client create a plan for overcoming recurrent situations through information and referrals. Clients served by the program are also offered follow up counseling to help them achieve stability.

The WYN meets kids where they are and introduces them to good role models. They dare kids to discover what's possible and help the kids of the High Country to challenge themselves, learn about others, and find their place in our community and our world.
