Religious Education Leadership

Director of Religious Education
Our Director of Religious Education (DRE) is Allison Rollans. She can be found at BUUF on Sunday mornings assisting the RE classes, at coffee hour in the Founder’s House, or in the service. She is happy to answer any questions you may have about our Religious Education Programs. You may also reach her during the week at [email protected]. Learn more about our Religious Education Director, Allison Rollans:
My path has led me back to the Mountains of North Carolina where I began my education at Appalachian State University more than two decades ago. My family and I moved here from Athens, GA. My experience with Unitarian Universalist Religious Education began at UUFH in Hendersonville, N.C. and continued at UUFA in Athens. Being involved in RE at these two Fellowships as a teacher, an RE committee member and a member of a collaborative team that acted as a Director of Religious Education gave me the foundation which supports me as I work with this growing RE program. I have gained 15 years of experience with UU RE. This work now helps me to support the wonderful RE here at BUUF. My husband, Greg McClure, is a professor in the College of Education at Appalachian State University. We have three wonderful children. This is our third UU home. We have enjoyed being a part of them all. Having our children grow up within the liberal religious community has been an important part of their experience. Besides my work in RE, I also work as a health & wellness coach & have supported women and families as a doula and childbirth educator. In my free time I enjoy gardening, biking and being outdoors with my family.

Travis Boswell, Youth Leader
Tamara Franks, minister of High Country UCC, worked throughout the 2017 OWL program with Travis and noticed how much the youth responded to him. Travis now serves as our Youth Leader. Full of fun and excitement for living, Travis is ready to take our youth program and infuse it with community engagement, fun group bonding, exploring personal values and creating room to learn and grow. Travis leads youth from both HCUCC and BUUF congregations on Sunday afternoons and once a month or so working with the youth to plan a social, volunteer or learning based outing. Travis also works as an Outdoor Educator at Buffalo Cove.
