9/16/2018

Picture
Our BUUF Day Retreat is at Valle Crucis Park on Saturday, September 22, from 10am-3:30pm. The Retreat will be a combination of activities at the park (frisbee, wading, conversations, etc.) with short workshops and discussion sessions that BUUF members can attend on an optional basis. The BUUF Board will provide drinks and Bar-B-Q meats for lunch; members should bring side dishes to share, potluck-style.

Here's an outline of the retreat activities:

10-10:30pm: Arrival and Opening Words

10:30-11:15pm: Fun in the Park / “BUUF and Social Action” discussion with Shana Lewis and Vic Suter.

11:30am-12:15pm: Fun in the Park / “Building BUUF Community” discussion with Beatrice Murray, Amanda Foley, and Paul Fox.

12:30-1:30pm: Lunch

1:30-2:15pm: Fun in the Park / “BUUF and Religious Education” discussion with Travis Boswell and Craig Fischer.

2:30-3:15pm: Fun in the Park / “BUUF’s Sunday Programs,” with Linda Larson and Kathy Parham.

3:15pm: Closing words.

Childcare is available for parents who want to attend the workshops. To reserve childcare—or to ask other questions about the Retreat—contact BUUF President Craig Fischer at craig_fschr@yahoo.com [.]

BUUF Hiring News: Beatrice Murray and Vic Suter

The Board is pleased to announce that Beatrice Murray has joined us as our Community Life Coordinator. In 2017, Beatrice moved from Miami to the High Country to take a position as an Administrative Specialist at Grandfather Mountain State Park, and she brought with her three years of experience (2014-17) as the Director of Religious Exploration at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Miami. Beatrice joined our Fellowship over the summer, and you may already be aware of her musical contributions to our worship, most recently singing in her beautiful soprano voice during the Music for Centering portion of our August 26 service.

As Community Life Coordinator, Beatrice will grow our community by reaching out to new BUUF visitors and attendees, by following up on those joys, transitions, and concerns shared during services, and by participating in long-range planning with the BUUF Board and other staff members. She is eager to hear your ideas: during our Valle Crucis Day Retreat on Saturday, September 22, she will host a workshop on the topic on “Building BUUF Community,” and looks forward to everyone’s input.
The Board has also renewed Vic Suter’s contract as BUUF Administrative Assistant for the 2018-19 year. Vic has proven invaluable in the day-to-day maintenance of our Fellowship—she pays our bills, she rents out parking spots to ASU students, she sends out the “Boonitarian Blast” e-mail and compiles the weekly Order of Service—and we also value her contributions to our Sunday mornings through her participation in Adult Forum and weekly services. (Coming up: Vic’s service on how “non-human species contribute gifts of community” on September 16.)

Please congratulate Beatrice and Vic when you see them.
